Methylene Chloride is a colourless, volatile liquid that has a pleasant, chloroform-like odour. Water is not miscible with it, but its polarity makes it miscible with many organic solvents. Due to its low volatility and ability to dissolve a wide range of organic compounds, DCM is a valuable solvent for a variety of chemical processes. In the food industry, it’s used to decaffeinate coffee and tea, as well as create hop extracts and other flavourings. It is utilised as an aerosol spray propellant and a blowing agent in polyurethane foams due to its high volatility.
